Five out of eight weeks of holidays are over... I have not done everything I had planned yet, but I am on the way there... So far I have read two English books, finished one term paper and written about one third of another term paper. Not too bad, but there is more to do... Three more English books, the term paper and some practice in Japanese are still waiting.
I do not want to bother you with my to-do-list... Actually, my greatest effort in those last three weeks is a diet I am working on. So far, I have lost 5 kg. Nothing to show off, but it is a start and I am motivated to do more. On my birthday, I was thrown back two days... How? Well, I had bought lots of food for my guests - I ought to have known better due to the fact that two thirds of my guests were Japanese (well, two out of three = 2/3 ;) ). You should know that the Japanese usually do not eat a lot and tend to be rather reserved when invited somewhere. So I thought "Somebody should start eating, that should make them, too", and so I did...
Of course, there was some food left at the end of the day - I gave it to a beggar woman in the pedestrian precinct the next day. I could not throw it away, as others do. For example, when I eat at the refectory of the university, I often see people leaving on theitr plates half of what they bought. It seems to me almost like a trend or a competition... "The one who buys the most and eats the least wins!" Those people's parents probably just did not teach them to eat up what they put on their plates...
