This is the city's most famous motif - the "Porta Nigra". It is a gate built by the Romans as a part of the city wall. In the Roman Empire, Trier - "Augusta Treverorum" or "Treveris", as it was named back then, was an imperial residence and the biggest city north of the Alps for a very long time. Actually, the "Porta Nigra" itself was white when it was built - later it received its present name, which means "black gate".

And this is a photo of my apartment house. It is a former office building used by the Deutsche Telekom until about eight years ago. My flat is in the left part of the building. At the moment there is a scaffold again.
